Kim visits

Kent's sister-in-law, Kim, came into town for about 20 hours. She flew in late at about 10:00 on Thursday night. At 6:30 Friday morning, she went to see "the dentist". The dentist gave her a 30 minute break for lunch where she and I had breakfast at Bon Vinos and shopped at Melange (I had to show her the highlights of Sunnyside while she was here). Then Kim went back to get some more work done until 2:00 when I picked her up from the office and we went directly to the airport to drop her off. Although she didn't stay very long, and it wasn't the most fun of agendas, I had a great time. I love spending time with Kim. She is such a genuine person. We had some good conversations and I can't wait until she comes back to finish her dental work! Thanks, Kim!

Book Club

Erin picked the book for this month's book club- "Rhett Butler's People".
It was kind of like "Gone With the Wind" from Rhett's point-of-view. Erin hosted book club at her house and did a wonderful job leading the discussion. Those of you that know Erin, know that she puts her heart into everything she does. There was no exception with book club. Her house looked perfect with rose petals and a little tuxedo. Enjoy the pictures!

This is Erin's lamp that we turned into "Scarlett O'Hara".

Bringin' the heat!

Last night we had some guests over for dinner. The last couple of times these friends have come over, things have not been so "perfect". We had pizza night once and then the next time they came over, I got sick and had my robe on when they arrived at the door! So this was going to be a "nice dinner". I called my mom and asked for her delicious chicken parmesan recipe and called my sister for her home made frennch bread recipe. I set the table with my new tablecloth and my favorite placemats then finished it with my grandmother's goblets. Here is a picture of what dinner looked like as our friends showed up!
I put some fried onions in the oven to toast and they caught on fire! When we opened the oven door the flames caught some air and expanded. Black smoke filled the house and the smoke alarm went off, scaring the little girls. We threw some baking soda on the flames (just as I was pulling out the camera) and the fire died. It was quite funny. I'm glad that our friend's will love us without condition. We had a great dinner and a good time. I just laugh that I was worried about which side of the plate to set the goblets on- that was the least of my problems. For future reference is it the right or left side?

Fun to look

Someday I'll have a kitchen of my own- not just a rental. Until then I'll have to just look at pictures like these...

Beautiful Color!

I was browsing one of my favorite websites and found a new favorite! I don't sew, wish I did, but I do love color and creativity- so this is website is a great fix for me. Check out more amazing things here.

Cupcakes

Today, Ella and I had a fun time making a huge mess in the kitchen. One of Kent's assistants is having a birthday today so cupcakes were to be made! We pulled out some fondant that we had in our cupboard and made little flowers.

We made a three tiered mini cake for the birthday girl.

Bride Wars

I saw this last night with a big group of friends. As I post my own little "review" keep in mind that some of my favorite girly movies include How to Lost a Guy in 10 Days, 13 going on 30, among others that might not be consider even as good as those. That being said, I really enjoyed the movie. Was it predictable? Yes. Was it super cheesey? Yes. Did I laugh out loud several times? Yes. It could have been that we had the theater to ourselves or that we were excited to be out of the house on a school night. Either way, I enjoyed myself and would go again. If you aren't expecting too much, then grab your girlfriends and a large popcorn (in Erin's case-a Whopper! heehee) and go have some fun.

Dreaming

As we are getting ready to move Ella from her toddler bed to a big bed (she is already sick of her toddler bed and sleeping in Ethan's room), here are some rooms that are giving me inspiration.

I love Sundays

"I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. I know who I am, I know God's plan, I'll follow Him in faith ". Those are words from a song I learned at my church when I was a little girl. Today I was again reminded, as I am every time I go to church, read my scriptures, or listen to the revelation of a modern day prophet that my life has a purpose. I know where I came from, I know why I am here and I know where I would like to go when I leave this life. I am thankful for the prophets of old that teach us principles that continue to help us today. I am thankful for the prophet, Joseph Smith, who had courage to witness to others that he had seen God the Father and His Son appear to Him. I don't know if I would have the same strength he did to suffer through what happened to him and his family as a result of his exerience. I am thankful for modern day prophets that continue to receive revelation from our Heavenly Father and give us direction and guidance to help make our lives enriched as the world falls apart around us. I am thankful that I can have a personal relationship with my Savior through prayer. I am thankful for the gift of the Holy Ghost that helps me make wiser decisions in my life as a woman, a wife, a mother, a daughter and a friend. I am forever thankful for the Atonement of Jesus Christ. I have made mistakes that I have been forgiven for. I continue to make mistakes that I will continue to be forgiven for if I partake of the sacrifice that was made for me- made for all of us. I love Sundays- especially when the Lord blesses my children to be quiet enough for me to hear the lessons from inspired teachers. I belong to the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. How did I get to be so lucky? This is my testimony and I couldn't keep it to myself today. Happy Sunday.

Happy Birthday, Mom!

Well, I have decided that my birthday posts ran a good run last year. Even though I am not going to do them again this year, I have to post a tribute to my mom.
Happy Birthday to you! Thank you for being such a wonderful example of a selfless person. You are so quick to make things as comfortable and inviting as possible. Your family comes before your own desires. You never let anyone around you doubt your testimony of your faith in our Savior, Jesus Christ. I am so blessed to have you as a mother. Thank you for sharing your love and life with me. I wish we could be together to go see a movie and go to dinner and get our traditional pedicure. I love you, Mom. Happy Birthday!

New Car

So Kent and I have been leasing our car for the last couple years. Our lease runs up this spring. My sister-in-law, Amy, and I were talking about it and she asked mewhat kind of car we'll get next. Hmmmmmm... Later that day, my friend, Mandy sent me this email. Destiny? I think so.
The back seats are recliners!!!
Now I can have dinner parties on the go!

I am not sure that screen will be BIG enough

I can even blog while traveling!

Best Dieting Tool

Wanting to cut down on your in-between-meals snacking? Here is the answer!
Yesterday I got invisalign. If any of you wore braces in HIGH SCHOOL- you'll know what I'm talking about when I say "youch!". My teeth hurt so bad! I did wear braces in high school, but did not wear my retainer so here I am doing Invisalign- let that be a lesson to all teenagers. Anyway... I have noticed that I think twice about snacking since I have to pop out this super tight contraption in order to bite into anything. I am still deciding which is worse, the pain or the lisp I now have. Oh well... it's only for five months. If you are wanting to lose some extra pounds after the holidays- invisalign is the way to do it!

I do want to mention how different going to the dentist is now that the dentist is my husband. Here are a few differences I noticed:
* I didn't need to find a babysitter for my kids because the assistants entertained and played with Ethan and Ella the whole time Kent was working on me.
* I realized how close Kent's face really is to people all day long as he works on their teeth.
* While I was in the chair several of the employees came in to watch what was happening.
* Brent and Gary Martin came in and poked around and made sure everything was fitting correctly. It was funny to have friends doing my dental work. Luckily they are very good at their jobs!
*Another difference that I must mention is- I now look forward to seeing the dentist!

Teaparty in Paris

My sister, Camille, was going to do a Parisian Teaparty Birthday for my niece but it didn't happen. She was going to do black and white with splashes of hot pink! Wouldn't that be so fun? I can't get the thought of it out of my system. Do I feel a Valentine's teaparty coming on (yes- I'm already planning Valentine's ideas)??

On with the shows!

What is everyone watching this winter? I admit it- I'm a little bit of a TV junkie. Once I am finished tucking my husband and kids in bed I love to unwind by watching some mindless TV. Here's a line up of (a few of) the shows I'm looking out for this season. There are a few more that I didn't post...I told you I was a JUNKIE!
Did anyone else catch the premier of the Bachelor? Before Brooke moved to Bieber (love that name), she'd get us girls together for some late night treats to watch the Bachelor. Miss you, Brooke! In Florida, my friends and I would have a Bachelor party and watch it too. The Bachelor just makes for some good times! Does anyone have a favorite girl they are already cheering for?
CANNOT wait for this one to come back.

I am loving "The City". Okay, so this is a spin-off from "The Hills" which was a spin-off from "Laguna Beach." Each spin-off gets better. If you are watching it, let me know if you are a downtown girl or an uptown girl. LOVE IT!

Do I dare admit? I watch this one for the New York high fashion. wink. wink.

This is a fun one. The show is fairly cheesey, but I am okay with it.

Yes, two of the shows are on the CW. What can I say?
