Amazing Boy Race Results

Kent and  I were touched that so many families would come out in the dreary weather to support us and Menkes awareness month.  We met at our first stop, Community Dental in Sunnyside and handed out copper awareness ribbon pins to each participant.  Reagran explained the details and rules, including the part about "not paying for speeding tickets" because she knew all too well that this group would have a couple competitive teams that might go a bit faster than the speed posted in Sunnyside.  The local paper was there to learn more about the event and our little Cannon made the front page!! Talk about raising awareness.  It makes my heart happy to know that maybe a few more people learned about this awful disease.  Here is the link to the article: Menkes Awareness in Sunnyside.   I took a TON of pictures, much to Ethan and Kent's dismay as they kept yelling at me to "Hurry up and get back in the car!!!!" There was no way I was going to miss capturing some of these hilarious moments!  After doubling speed limits, driving on grassy baseball diamonds, literally running all over the hill in Sunnyside and wrestling other families to the ground, we were excited enough to win first place in honor of our little Cannon boy.  I promise the race wasn't "fixed" as Reagran took great measures to make sure I didn't have any clues ahead of time.  In reality though, could Kent, Ethan, Ella and I look Bubba in the face again if we didn't give it our all to make sure we reached him at the finish line first?  Once all the teams had reached the finish line, we celebrated together with pizza and cupcakes.  There was such a buzz after that we decided we can't wait to do it again.  We have decided that we will do it again for Cannon's birthday in March so put it on your calendars because we'd love to have everyone there that would like to be involved.

At this roadblock, the challenge was to put a foot long stick of bubble gum in your mouth and then blow three bubbles with it.

At this road block we had a ticket given to us and then had to look through buckets of ticket stubs to find the matching number then we were given our next clue and back on the road.

Unfortunately, Ashleigh was super sick and not able to make it.  I can only imagine how differently the game would've gone with her competitive spirit there with her family.  I look forward to it in March.  She was, however, so thoughtful that she put a copper cord ribbon on Chad so I had to take a picture of Chad representing Ashleigh and he did his best "Ashleigh wave".

I always knew Brittany had a competitive side but this race really brought it out.  Here she is trying to keep our team from getting our clue as Derek was turning the car around for their getaway.  {The next day, the owner of the driveway said he had major skid marks in his driveway... hmmm...?}  Once Kent came to Ethan's rescue, Brittany ditched the clue bag and ran over to steal our keys!  Derek turned around and was ready to go so she had to abort her mission and get back on the road.

 1st place

 2nd place

3rd place

I'm so happy that my mom and dad were able to be in town when we did this.  They were an AMAZING help in preparation for and executing the race with Reagran and Annie.

We are truly blessed to have so many people that love and support our Amazing Boy!

What an absolutely fantastic idea to honor our little Bubba Boy and all the other dear little boys with Menkes through this Amazing Boy Race! Not only did it bring awareness, it looked like so darn much fun! I truly believe this should be continued, too! Way to go, Copelands, for planning and carrying out such a great event. Reagran really did such great work getting the whole thing laid out. Thanks, Reagran!
